Quick Side Note: Don’t get yourself confused here, the same steps are applicable either you are creating a blog or a business website for your brand or business
What is WordPress?
WordPress.org is the best content management system and an open source software which can be used to create all sort of websites, blogs or apps.
It gives you the total freedom to build anything you want on it with no restrictions, unlimited customization, beautiful designs with no coding or HTML required.
When talking about WordPress.org, it can’t work on it own without you hosting it online (a server) and with this guide, you’ll get the proper way to start a blog using Bluehost.
What is / Why Bluehost?
Bluehost is a web hosting company, the largest brand that has helped millions host their websites over the years with a lot of satisfied customers all around the world using them.
When it comes to WordPress blog hosting, they are probably the one you should think of.
There are so many great things attached to this company which I listed below. This is the same company we use to host all of our websites and blogs with no issues, so you wouldn’t feel like I just randomly pick for you.
Benefits of Using Bluehost:
- They are SUPER cheap without diminishing in quality and service.
- Highly recommended by 85% of Bloggers, Web designers & Developers.
- Bluehost is awarded the best for WordPress hosting by WordPress.org
- Complete guarantee given on hosting packages, so no risk at all.
- Providing Free SSL certificates for maximum security.
- Quality customer support via phone or live chat 24/7.
- Having the most enhanced WordPress management tools.
- Clean & custom-branded cPanel with simplicity.
Now, can you see why I chose Bluehost above other hosting companies online? So you also do the same to start your WordPress blog if you want the best for your blog.
Why A Self-hosted Website/Blog?
Maybe, you are thinking of what importance is it to host a blog while you can make use of free hosting platforms like Blogger.com to start a blog with.
Starting a blog with free hosting platforms will do you more harm than the good you think they offer, without any notice, your blog and its content can be wiped off the internet anytime meaning all your effort gone just like that.
Secondly what they offer is sub-standard and of low quality. No one to attend to your needs when you have challenges with your website.
PRO Advice: If you have ever thought of making money off your blog or make it a business at the long run, then I suggest you host your blog with Bluehost and stop running after free platforms.
There is a reason why 99.9% of successful blogs don’t use them. So you can’t afford NOT to go with self-hosting, my friend. It is only $3.95/month.
Creating A WordPress Blog With Bluehost
Are you ready to host your blog right away? Let me walk you through the process in just 3 simple steps and be an official owner of your own blog in five minutes from now.
Are you ready to go?
STEP 1: Get Your Hosting + Free Domain
Domain name is simply the web address link you type in the address bar of your phone or desktop browser.
For instance, the domain name of Internet Cash Archive is InternetCashArchive.com.
Hosting is an online storage space specially provided for you where all your website contents are saved to. In a simple line, it is your backend office that controls what happens at the front end.
In a simple line, it is your backend office that controls what happens at the front end.
To host your blog, you need to buy a domain and the hosting to set up your own web space online. Now let’s started…
Open up Bluehost in a new tab and click the green “get started now“ button.
On the next page, you are to select a plan of your choice (Basic, Plus, Prime).
Since you are just starting out as an individual, stick to the Basic plan. If need be to upgrade in nearest future, you can easily upgrade with a single mouse click to any other plan.
And when it comes to finding a rich domain name for your blog, these tips below should help.
- Mustn’t be long (20 characters or less work best).
- Must be easy to remember, pronounce and share.
- Pick the .com option if still available.
- When not certain about the name to use, use your name (this is preferable).
- Don’t include hyphen or number in the domain (it look strange).
Getting Your Free Domain Name
Enter your website address in the white box and click Next,
but if you’ve already gotten a domain name elsewhere, simply type it in the second box on the right side (but remember to change the two DNS Nameservers from where you bought such domain to that of Bluehost).
See the two nameservers below…
After getting your free domain, on the next page is where to fill in your contact information to register an account with Bluehost.
Make sure your info is valid as you might need them for verification purposes.
On the next page is where to select a package plan.
I recommend you go for the 36-month plan which gives you a 50% discount and if you want to save more, like up to 66% discount on your hosting plan. I made an easy to follow 4 step guide tutorial with about that. Read it here…
There are some extra options attached to the package plan but I only recommend you checkbox the “domain privacy protection” option to keep your contact details private.
The last step here is to make a payment and all you need to do is to add your credit card details or use the Paypal payment option, agree to their terms and then click the Submit button.
Congrats! You now have your own website. Now, let’s move on to the next step.

STEP 3. Design Your Blog
Now you can see how easy it was to create a WordPress blog with Bluehost.
Now, It is time to design your blog.
And to do that, you need a WordPress theme and some nice plugins to give your blog the best look.
With WordPress everything is easy, you don’t have to be that Guru to get this done.
There are thousands of WordPress themes you can pick from depending on your taste. All you have to do is to find a theme that goes hand in hand with what you want for your blog.
To Find a theme to install
- First login to your WordPress Dashboard.
- Go to Appearance » Themes » Add New
From thousands of themes available there, select the one you want to install on your blog.
Preview them first to see how it is going to look like on your blog.
You can as well sort themes out based on recent and popularity which might help pick a better choice.
Once you have installed your preferred theme, you can customize it by clicking on Customize under the Appearance section of your dashboard.
If you want a better look for your blog, then I suggest going for high-quality premium themes (fully SEO Optimized, Elegant and Mobile friendly) and a good place to get that is from MyThemeShop.com.
By default, a pre-made theme comes with your WordPress installation but I’ll advise you not to use it simply because it is not the best.
Instead of using that pre-made theme, use these best free WordPress theme I have personally handpicked for you instead and pick anyone that suits your need.
Essential Plugins to Install on your WordPress Blog
